In Search of Optimal Health – The AIMS of Dr. Asher Milgrom and Dr. Alice Pien

Imagine if someone told you that there is a cure for herpes, diabetes, Lyme disease, lupus, MS and many more diseases considered to be incurable life-sentence illnesses by conventional medicine.

Wouldn’t you be overjoyed?

What if you found out that there are treatments for cancer that are 1000% more effective than conventional treatments? What if you found out that many of these therapies have been available for some time but that the “powers-that-be” such as the FDA, “big-pharma” and insurance companies shut the door on these “alternative cures”?

Wouldn’t you be outraged?

Optimal Health and the Powers-that-be

Well, studies show there are KNOWN and proven cures to some of the most debilitating diseases of our time, but because of what seem to be nefarious and conspiratorial reasons having to do with power and money, those that control medicine seem determined on keeping us in the dark about these treatments and cures.

Why would they do that?

Because your ill health is a multi-trillion-dollar industry that feeds massive pharmaceutical companies, giant insurance companies, as well as the Feds and enormous sectors of the legal industry. Simply put, the disruption to these industries represented by a cure to an illness whose “management” generates billions of dollars is a threat.

Bottom line, there is a lot of money and power in “managing” your illness for the span of your lifetime, rather than simply curing it and restoring you to optimal health.

Is your mind boggling?

Because mine certainly did when I discovered all this from husband and wife team, Dr. Alice Pien MD and Dr. Asher Milgrom PhD.

Pioneers in Integrative and Regenerative Medicine

Beyond the repairing of your skin… to a holistic rebirth of your skin

Beyond the repairing of your skin… to a holistic rebirth of your skin

For me the issue was also personal. I’d gone in search of an alternative cure for my rosacea as I’ve suffer with continual outbreaks, not only on my skin, but occasionally also in my eyes. The only solution I could find with western medicine were antibiotics and steroidal creams, both of which cause side effects and are hard on my liver.

My search brought me to AMA Regenerative Medicine & Skincare where I met Drs. Milgrom and Pien, pioneers in Integrative and Regenerative medicine. Together, Drs. Milgrom and Pien own and operate AMA Regenerative Medicine & Skincare where they’ve developed advanced holistic medical protocols for a wide variety of laser procedures that produce extraordinary clinical results while requiring minimal patient downtime. In other words, they could stop my rosacea for good – with no unhealthy side effects in a short span of time.

The only down side?

My insurance wouldn’t cover it. I went ahead regardless and had the laser treatments done.

And did it heal my rosacea?

Absolutely – 100%

Holistic Rebirth of Your Skin

AMA Regenerative Medicine & Skincare offers all kinds of leading edge, noninvasive therapies that go beyond the repairing of your skin to a holistic rebirth of your skin. If you want healthy, young looking and vibrant skin, this is the place to go.

Achieving Optimal Health

But hold on, not only do Dr. Milgrom and Dr. Pien include high potency vitamin IV therapy, acupuncture, collagen induction therapy, and hyperbaric oxygen treatments as adjuncts to their hi-tech laser medicine, they further offer ozone therapy and stem cell therapy for a wide spectrum of systemic diseases as well.

These last two therapies for optimal health are what really intrigued me, and I wanted to know more, not just about these therapies but also about what is happening in our healthcare system?

Integrative and Regenerative Medicine for Optimal Health

SoCal Magazine:

Mesenchymal Stem Cells

Dr. Milgrom holds a vial of Mesenchymal Stem Cells.

Stem cell therapy seems to offer tremendous promise in treating a range of diseases, injuries and other health-related conditions. Could you tell us more about this?

Dr. Pien and Dr. Milgrom:

Eventually all the cells in our bodies lose their ability to function because of aging or because they were damaged in some way. Since stem cells are the regenerative engines of our bodies, we can either stimulate your own native stem cells or inject your body with stem cells that will help heal your body in ways your own stem cells are no longer able to.

We administer stem cells in the form of injections and IV infusions, and once the stem cells are in your body we stand back and watch the healing. It’s rather miraculous and is truly humbling for physicians to work with these “mysterious” cells (see the documentary, the “God Cells”).

The stem cells we use are harvested from the human umbilical cord Wharton’s Jelly and are known as Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSC). Studies show that these stem cells help with joint repair, auto-immune disease, degenerative organs and neuromuscular diseases including Autism, Multiple Sclerosis and muscular dystrophy. Without a doubt, Stem Cell Therapy is the most promising and potent of all anti-aging, longevity and regenerative therapies.

SoCal Magazine:

And what can Ozone Therapy do for you?

Dr. Pien and Dr. Milgrom:

Ozone therapy is being administered via autohemotherapy

Ozone therapy is being administered via autohemotherapy.

There are studies from around the world showing that Ozone Therapy is effective in the treatment of various diseases including cancer, AIDS, Multiple Sclerosis, arthritis, heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, chronic infections such as Lyme disease and viruses, as well as many autoimmune diseases.

Ozone kills bacteria, viruses and fungi, and comes with a long list of benefits such as anti-aging, boosting the immune system, and increasing energy production in your cells. Ozone therapy stimulates the mitochondria of every cell in our body, and given that mitochondria are the “engine of life” in each cell—ozone stimulates the regenerative capacity of every organ in the body.

Ozone therapy has been extensively studied for decades, is used worldwide for cancer, hepatitis, HIV, herpes, Lyme, autoimmune diseases and hundreds of serious illnesses, and though it is legal to use, it is not FDA approved in the US. You may wonder how that can be, when ozone is so effective and inexpensive, without any harmful adverse reactions or side effects so typical of pharmaceuticals and surgeries. Ahhh, and therein lies the rub, because the fact is that ozone works and if it was used more, many people could avoid the need for pharmaceuticals and/or surgeries.

SoCal magazine:

Why is Western Medicine not climbing on board?

Dr. Pien and Dr. Milgrom:

Conventional western-medicine is failing us here in the USA. Not only do we pay the most exorbitant costs for healthcare anywhere in the world, but the quality of care we receive is now the lowest in the developed world. To make it worse, the painful truth that no one wants to look at, is that “Iatrogenic Death”, which is death caused by medical treatments, ranks as one of the top 3 leading causes of premature and unnecessary death in the United States. And yes, of course, everyone is aware that western medicine has also developed amazing and vital therapies, but we’re moving towards a future where achieving optimal health is the goal.

For stem cell research, the rules and regulations laid out by the FDA slows us down and makes it very expensive to do trials that also require many years to complete – and everyone knows it. It’s short sighted because now literally millions of people every year leave the US in search of preferred healthcare elsewhere in the world that is focused on optimal health and is both more effective and often less expensive than treatments in the US.

When it comes to achieving optimal health… The doctor and the patient aren’t even included in the conversation

When it comes to achieving optimal health… The doctor and the patient aren’t even included in the conversation

SoCal Magazine:

Above is Dr. Milgrom’s animated depiction of what the medical playing field looks like in the US. Notice how neither the doctor nor the patients are allowed to participate in the conversation dominated by the four huge gorillas.

It’s due to this ludicrous situation that Drs. Pien and Milgrom are looking to establish a medical facility in Belize called AIMS – Advanced Integrative Medicine and Surgery that will be truly integrative and completely free of the gorillas, and 110% focused on delivering the best possible clinical outcomes to its patients. They’ve already gained support from Belize’s Ministry of Health who said “…we are pleased to provide all necessary support to ensure the success of this project…” And the government in Belize has modified its healthcare regulations in support of the AIMS project.

So, how does AIMS plan to help patients achieve optimal health?

Advanced Integrative Medicine & Surgery

Advanced Integrative Medicine & Surgery

Dr. Pien and Dr. Milgrom:

With Advanced Integrative Medicine—a safer, non-toxic, minimally invasive, less expensive way to treat you with superior results that achieve optimal health.

Integrative Medicine incorporates treatments from all modalities, ancient treatments and modern science, western and eastern, including Regenerative medicine, and takes into account not only the physiological symptoms, but also the psychological, social and spiritual aspects of illness, health and wellness. Integrative Medicine utilizes, supports and amplifies the body’s own potential to heal itself.

In this fully integrative environment, even when surgery is necessary, the outcomes will be far and away superior to conventional standards. Through AIMS and its research facilities, Drs. Pien, Milgrom, and hundreds of their colleagues’ intend to develop and provide optimal health for humanity.

Watch the video : Lyme Disease Treatment – An Integrative Medical Approach

(The following is a transcription of the above video)

The topic of today is about Lyme Disease, which, specifically, needs to be addressed in an integrative fashion.

Those of you out there who have Lyme Disease or know people who do have Lyme Disease, know that the traditional, conventional way that medicine approaches this is truly ineffective unless you catch it very early in the infectious stage. If you can diagnose the condition in the first month or so, then antibiotics can take care of it.

After that, if it goes longer, you could be in trouble with chronic Lyme Disease and the integrative medical approach to chronic Lyme Disease is definitely the way to go.

Integrative Approach to Lyme Disease Treatment

The integrative approach to treatment of lyme disease includes high dose ozone therapy.

The integrative approach to treatment of lyme disease includes high dose ozone therapy.

The integrative approach to Lyme Disease treatment, which of course includes antibiotics, brings three additional components into the therapy that you need to learn about and that’s why we’re here today.

  1. Ozone Therapy
  2. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
  3. Different types of herbs that are very powerful and very effective

Watch the video : How I finally healed from Lyme disease – I tried everything!

Before we get into explaining precisely what the integrative approach is, it’s important to understand why the integrative approach is important to take.

About Lyme Disease

As you know, we get Lyme Disease through a tick bite. It used to be just in the Northeast, but now it’s spread all over the East and the West Coast.

It's usually the small nymph tick, that is so hard to detect, that bites you and you never know it.

It’s usually the small nymph tick, that is so hard to detect, that bites you and you never know it.

It’s very difficult to detect the tick when it bites you because mainly it’s the small nymph tick, which is a tiny little guy that’s so hard to detect, that it’ll bite you, infect you, and fall off before you even know it.

64% of the people who have verifiably the Lyme Disease never even knew they were ever bitten. The tick is so small. It bites them, infects them, feeds on them, and falls off before they even knew it.

The "bullseye" rash that some people get with lyme disease

The “bullseye” rash that some people get with lyme disease

50% of them never even get that rash that is characteristic of some people who get the Lyme Disease and they may carry the infection for years before suddenly all those horrible symptoms descend on them like an avalanche of bad news.

Symptoms of Lyme Disease

The symptoms that come with Lyme Disease are so varied that they can mimic a dozen different types of diseases.

A person that’s carrying that Lyme infection for a very long time, not knowing that they are infected, can develop a whole kind of a nasty club of what we call ‘co-infections’ – these are other microbes that get in on the party and make the person miserably sick with a whole variety, a wide spectrum of symptoms, that are truly devastating.

The symptoms of Lyme Disease can mimic:

  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Lupus
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Parkinson’s
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Heart problems
  • Joint pain
  • Nerve pain
  • Brain issues
  • Depression
  • Brain fog
  • Loss of memory
  • Loss of cognitive function
  • Reduced and horrible sleep

It’s so bad and it can mimic so many different symptoms or diseases that Lyme has earned the moniker of the ‘Great Imitator’.

Borrelia often lodge within the joints causing a variety of joint myalgia’s as well as other symptoms.

Borrelia often lodge within the joints causing a variety of joint myalgia’s as well as other symptoms.

The bottom line is… If you didn’t detect it early and you’ve now developed chronic Lyme Disease with all these multiple co-infections that give you this wide variety of symptoms, you’re in trouble and the conventional way that medicine approaches this is no longer going to be effective.

The disease and the infections are now so deeply ingrained in you that you need help beyond antibiotics.

Endotoxins, Biotoxins & Neurotoxins

One of the most important elements of the horrible symptoms that people get with chronic Lyme Disease, something that’s very important for you to understand, is it’s not the pathogens directly causing the symptoms, it’s the endotoxins that they release. These are biotoxins, endotoxins, neurotoxins that they release that wreak havoc in your body.

Most of the nervous symptoms, the peripheral neuropathy that you may be having, which could be, by the way, for those who don’t know, incredible pains in your legs and your arms and numbness and tingling in your feet and hands and things like that, are caused not by the pathogen directly but by the endotoxins that they release.

Even when you’ve successfully killed the pathogen, you may still have endotoxins cursing through your system that are causing the horrible symptoms that you are still dealing with. Therefore, part of the therapy necessary for curing chronic Lyme is the detoxification of all those endotoxins.

Transmission of Lyme Disease

As most of us know, the primary way of getting Lyme disease is through a vector or through the bite of a tick. However, that’s not the only way. We are now finding out scientifically that there may be other ways of getting it.

The most common way of getting lyme disease is through the bite of a tick.

The most common way of getting lyme disease is through the bite of a tick.

First and foremost, there are indications that different kinds of insects do carry the Borrelia spirochaete. It doesn’t mean that they transmit it, but it’s possible, so stay tuned as that news unfolds over the next few years.

Contracting Lyme Disease Through Sex

The condition that I’m most concerned about is the fact that the Borrelia spirochaete has been found in human ejaculate and also in vaginal secretions. Now, that means of course that sexual contact could be a conduit for getting the disease. It has not been clinically verified that it could happen, but it’s a good thing to keep watch on that and checking with your partners whether or not that’s something you need to be concerned with.

I don’t want you to panic about this, but obviously, if it’s a possibility and you care for your partner, you love your partner, it’s something you need to be cognizant of.

We do have patients in our clinics who swear that that’s how they contracted the disease. Again, given that that little tiny nymph tick is the primary way that people get Lyme, it’s very likely that they got Lyme from a tick and didn’t know it.

Most importantly here is that you cannot get Lyme from casual contact with your friends and relatives and people you work with.

Why Lyme Disease is so Hard to Detect

Why is Lyme so hard to detect? Why does it even become a chronic Lyme Disease type of syndrome which is so devastating?

The lyme spirochaete has 10 major ways that it evades conventional medicine

The stealthy lyme spirochaete has 10 major ways that it evades conventional medicine.

There are a number of different things about this very stealthy spirochaete you need to know about.

There are 10 major ways that the spirochaete Borrelia have of evading conventional medicine. I’m not going to get into the details of those right now, but what’s important for you to understand is that ozone and hyperbaric oxygen can take up the slack where antibiotics don’t work.

Pleomorphism

For instance, the Borrelia spirochaete can change its structure of its cells so that your immune system can’t recognize it.

Well, guess what? The Borrelia is not immune to ozone. Ozone, that tiny little O3 molecule, can go wherever the Borrelia goes and can penetrate those cell membranes and kill that Borrelia where it is.

Hides in Deep Tissue

The Borrelia spirochaete looks like a corkscrew and can essentially drill into our tissues and bury itself where antibiotics have a hard time going.

The Borrelia spirochaete can drill into your tissue and hide from antibiotics.

The Borrelia spirochaete can drill into your tissue and hide from antibiotics.

Well, the ozone molecule is a tiny little O3 molecule and can penetrate every single tissue and every single cell in your body. It can find that Borrelia wherever it’s trying to hide and kill it.

Biofilm

Another one of those stealthy mechanisms that pathological bacteria like Borrelia can use is the creation of something called a biofilm. That’s a gelatinous kind of sludge that they create and hide in. Immune cells can’t penetrate this sludge, nor can antibiotics, so it protects the Borrelia.

The Borrelia spirochaete can create a biofilm to protect itself from your immune system and antibiotics.

The Borrelia spirochaete can create a biofilm to protect itself from your immune system and antibiotics.

On the other hand, ozone can penetrate the sludge and dissolve it away, making the Borrelia susceptible to antibiotics and immune cells and of course, the ozone also attacks the Borrelia directly.

Hides Inside Cells (Intra-Cellular Parasite)

Another thing that Borrelia can do is it can drill into our cells, actually hide within our cells and become what we call an intra-cellular parasite.

Well, guess what? Ozone can also penetrate right through the cell membranes and not only is it healthy for our normal cells, but it will kill the Borrelia inside our cells.

The Borrelia spirochaete can burrow itself into your central nervous system.

The Borrelia spirochaete can burrow itself into your central nervous system.

This is particularly important for those who are suffering from major brain fog. The Borrelia has managed to get into your brain tissues and the ozone can penetrate into your brain and not only is it incredibly healthy for our normal cells, it will kill the Borrelia wherever it hides. It’s like that old adage, it can run but it can’t hide from ozone.

Borrelia Doesn’t like Oxygen

In this regard, the hyperbaric oxygen therapy is also very important.

Inside a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. Borrelia doesn't like oxygen

Inside a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. Borrelia doesn’t like oxygen

You get into this chamber, you are pressurized with normal air and inside the chamber you are breathing, through a mask, pure oxygen. The pressure causes the oxygen to be infused throughout your entire body and every cell and every tissue and every nook and cranny of your body. Incredibly healthy for your body to be oxygenated that way. Every organ is going to dance with delight for all that oxygen.

Explore the photos below to get an in-depth view of the Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber.

But guess what? Borrelia doesn’t like oxygen. It’s an anaerobe, it prefers an environment with a lack of oxygen. So, the oxygen is not only incredibly healthy and supportive of all your systems and all your organs, it is in fact, a direct opponent to your Borrelia infection. It helps you to kill it.

Persister State

Now, as you may know, the Borrelia spirochaete can also hide in what’s called a ‘persister state’ or like a cyst where it becomes kind of impervious both to our immune system and to antibiotics.

Well, once again, guess what? Ozone isn’t constrained by its cyst state and can kill it even in this cyst state.

Integrative Treatment of Lyme Disease

A lot of you may be asking, well, why not antibiotics?

Long-term use of antibiotics is not healthy and is not very effective in killing Borrelia.

Long-term use of antibiotics is not healthy and is not very effective in killing Borrelia.

Well, as a matter of fact, many people who have been suffering from Lyme have been on long-term antibiotic therapies, sometimes for years. Trust me on this, long-term antibiotic use is not healthy, not good for you and doesn’t kill the Borrelia for all the reasons that I just mentioned previously.

A Different Approach to Antibiotics

What do you do about that? First of all, stop the long-term antibiotics.

First and foremost, you have to find a physician who is an integrative physician that understands this concept and can use antibiotics differently. In pulses, for instance, where they have antibiotics for a little bit of time and then no antibiotics for a while where they use other therapies and again antibiotics for a little bit of time – they alternate them back and forth.

The long-term use of antibiotics will not only kill bad bacteria in your body, it will kill all the good bacteria in your body.

Don’t Want to Kill the Good Bacteria

We have many strains of good bacteria in our body that are essential to the proper functioning of our physiology, especially in our GI system – in our gut. If you kill the good stuff, you won’t be able to digest properly.

70% of our immune function is located in our gut. Long-term antibiotics can mess that up.

70% of our immune function is located in our gut. Long-term antibiotics can mess that up.

Remember that 70% of our immune function is located in our gut. If you mess up that biome in there, if you mess up the landscape in there, then guess what? Your immune system isn’t going to be working properly and you need a strong immune system in order to deal with the infection.

That’s one of the reasons that chronic Lyme Disease is so devastating; it runs your immune system down with all those co-infections to the point where your immune system is no longer functioning right and the disease or the infection and all the co-infections basically have free reign to wreak havoc in your body.

Why Ozone is Important

Watch the video : Ozone therapy relieved me of my Lyme symptoms

Another reason that ozone is so important is because of the effect that antibiotics have on all of your healthy cells. Antibiotics hurt your mitochondria.

Mitochondria are the energy-generating powerhouse of every cell in your body. Your mitochondria are the little organelles that process the oxygen that you breathe in along with the food and create the ATP, the fuel, that every cell in your body needs.

Well, guess what? Long-term antibiotics definitely negatively affect and degrade your mitochondria.

Ozone Stimulates Your Mitochondria

Explore the photos below to get an in-depth view of the intravenous High Dose Ozone Therapy treatment.

On the other hand, ozone is the single most powerful natural stimulant of mitochondrial function and health.

Your mitochondria process the oxygen that you breathe in and create the ATP. Ozone is the single most powerful natural stimulant of mitochondrial function and health.

Your mitochondria process the oxygen that you breathe in and create the ATP. Ozone is the single most powerful natural stimulant of mitochondrial function and health.

Not only does ozone go after the Borrelia and kill it in all the places where antibiotics and your immune system can’t function, but the ozone increases the mitochondrial function of every cell in your body and, therefore, it really boosts your immune system.

Keeps you healthy, boosts your immune system, and goes after the Borrelia. That’s kind of a trifecta, it’s a good thing.

Ozone Increases Cellular Perfusion of Oxygen

Last but not least about ozone. Ozone has a direct effect on your red blood cells. It increases their metabolism and increases your red blood cells’ ability to carry oxygen and deliver it to all the tissues in your body.

Ozone increases your red blood cells ability to carry oxygen and deliver it to all the tissues in your body. Borrelia do not like oxygen.

Ozone increases your red blood cells ability to carry oxygen and deliver it to all the tissues in your body. Borrelia do not like oxygen.

Remember, none of your cells can work without oxygen and oxygen is one of those things that the Borrelia spirochaete and lots of other infections don’t like. You definitely want to be using the ozone to boost your oxygen capacity.

Detoxification of Endotoxins

By far, the best way to detox from those endotoxins are herbal remedies.

  • CBD
  • Banderol
  • Samento
  • Biofilm breakers
  • Isatis
  • DIM
  • Curcumin
  • Cat’s Claw
  • NAD
  • Poly-MVA

In addition to the endotoxins, your immune system’s response to the endotoxins is to release a whole cascade of different cytokines.

When you immune system is activated it releases a cascade of cytokines.

When you immune system is activated it releases a cascade of cytokines. This process can get messed up and out of balance with lyme disease and its many co-infections.

Cytokines are very important in your immune system’s ability to function, but when the immune system is messed up and out of balance and over-reactive to all those infections that you have, then they’ll produce too many cytokines and you need to deal with them as well.

The only healthy way to deal with an overproduction of cytokines is the up-regulation of your own genes that deal with cytotoxin toxicity and all the inflammation that, that causes.

By far, herbal remedies such as CBD, such as DIM and other ones that do up-regulate the genes that deal with that is the way to go.

We have another video on CBD (below) and how it works and how it activates your endocannabinoid system which will deal with those systemic inflammation symptoms.

Watch the video : The Inside Story of Cannabidiol

By the way, the best way to get herbal remedies and different nutritional remedies as well into your system is through sublingual liposome administration of those very important substances. You squirt them under your tongue and it gets directly into your bloodstream and through your body where you need them.

Lyme disease – Stealthy, Tricky, Devastating… Treatable!

  • This article is a scientifically accurate overview of the most relevant information about Lyme disease in simple every-day language.
  • This article is designed as a “real-life” guide to help you understand the effects of Lyme disease and find your way to a treatment protocol that will heal you.
  • This article will educate you on why Integrative Medicine offers the best path to healing Lyme disease.
  • Therefore, it is important that you understand what Lyme disease is and how and why the following modalities are critically important for your healing:
         a. Ozone therapy
         b. Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy
         c. Specific herbs (like CBD) that modulate anti-inflammatory genes

All three of these are powerful tools of Integrative and Regenerative Medicine.

What is Lyme Disease?

Spirochete bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi

Spirochete bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi

Lyme disease, which is caused by an infection of the spirochete bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi, is one of the world’s fastest growing and most difficult diseases to treat. There are many controversies about this disease stemming from the fact that it is complicated. Lyme disease can affect every organ system in our body. Lyme’s symptoms (see below) overlap with many other diseases and its presentation changes as it progresses through its various stages. Even experts are constantly challenged to comprehend its complexities.

It is entirely possible that some people with robust immune systems may actually carry the Borrelia pathogen for years without ever seeing any signs of the disease, whereas others may suffer years with the symptoms of chronic pain, affecting both mind and body, suffering from debilitating symptoms resembling MS, Fibromyalgia, Lupus, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Parkinson’s, rheumatoid arthritis, heart problems, joint pains, nerve pain, depression, awful brain fog, loss of short-term memory, impaired cognitive ability and much more.

Early Diagnosis and Treatment

If you are lucky enough to be diagnosed with Lyme disease and treated within 2-4 weeks of being infected, recovery from Lyme can be quick and complete. However, the signs of Lyme disease are notoriously difficult to diagnose. Many lab tests that reliably detect other infections do not produce valid results for Lyme, and often don’t show the presence of the infection. Thus, the Lyme disease symptoms may show up “out of the blue”, complicated by the fact that they often mimic many other diseases, often resulting in the misdiagnosis of Lyme disease. It is so tricky that Lyme has earned the moniker of “the great imitator”.

Watch the video : How I finally healed from Lyme disease – I tried everything!

Therefore, it is critically important that anyone who suspects that they may be infected with Lyme, seek the advice of a medical practice that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease, because a definitive diagnosis requires the proper lab results as well as an in-office evaluation of your symptoms face to face with a specialist physician.

The fact is that fewer than 50% of people who have verifiably contracted Lyme disease can even remember being bitten by a tick or having the associated rash. Tragically, if the symptoms of Lyme disease in these unfortunate people go undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, untreated, or incorrectly treated, the disease can progress to become Chronic Lyme Disease, a condition involving your entire body, including your heart, joints, organs, muscles, peripheral nervous system and brain… giving you all the symptoms I listed above.

Chronic Lyme Disease

Chronic Lyme Disease, also called Lyme Disease Complex or Post-Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome, is understood as a collection of co-infections by other pathogens in addition to the Lyme Borrelia. The effects of Lyme disease together with this gang of microbial invaders release a toxic soup of inflammatory biotoxins and neurotoxins that wreak havoc in the patient’s body.

Much to the frustration of those afflicted with Chronic Lyme Disease, and despite their undeniable suffering, conventional doctors and medical institutions are not convinced that Chronic Lyme is a distinct and real disease. Conventional protocols persist in the paradigm that standard antibiotics cure the infection, and thus the protracted symptoms must be due to something else… or to add insult to injury, “might be in your head”. Unfortunately, and contrary to this conventional paradigm, long term use of antibiotics is not only ineffective in curing the infection, it will actually cause considerable damage to your physiology as hundreds of thousands of people suffering from Chronic Lyme Disease would attest.

How is Lyme Disease Transmitted?

The bacteria that causes Lyme disease are from the Borrelia family of spirochetes, the primary one being Borrelia burgdorferi. Borrelia spirochetes are carried by and spread through the bite of lyme disease infected ticks.

It’s the Ticks

The deer tick, Ixodes scapularis found in the northeastern, mid-Atlantic, and north-central United States; On the Pacific Coast, Borrelia is spread by the western blacklegged tick Ixodes pacificus. See where Lyme disease occurs in the US.

Lyme disease infected ticks can bite and attach to any part your body. Sometimes they crawl under your clothing and bite you in areas where they are hard to find, such as your groin or armpits and of course your scalp. Generally, lyme disease ticks must be attached for at least 36 hours before the Borrelia that causes Lyme is transmitted. Though both full sized adult ticks (size of a sesame seed) and tiny immature “nymph” ticks bite humans, the nymph ticks are so small (size of a poppy seed) they are typically undetected and manage to remain attached long enough to feed, infect the human host, and drop off.

Adult ticks are much more likely to be detected soon after biting us, and removed before we become infected. Thus, most Lyme disease is contracted by humans from nymph ticks, that we never even know bit us.

Furthermore, because the early effects of Lyme disease can be so mild and may not occur at all, it is very common for people to be totally unaware that they have been infected. Then, suddenly, months or even years later, a barrage of symptoms hits them like a tsunami.

Other Ways Lyme Can and Can Not be Transmitted

  • Lyme disease is NOT casually contagious according to the CDC, meaning it is NOT transmitted from person-to-person or from simple touching or kissing an infected person.
  • However, Borrelia has been found in male ejaculate and vaginal secretions. Thus, theoretically, Lyme CAN be sexually transmitted. Unfortunately, this has not be sufficiently studied to verify the rate and efficiency of transmission.
  • Though Lyme disease in a pregnant woman can infect a developing fetus, (25% of the time) the baby can be protected when the mother receives appropriate antibiotic treatment.
  • Lyme disease is not transmitted through breast milk.
  • Lyme disease bacteria can live in blood that is stored for transfusion. However, no known cases of transmission of the disease this way have been recorded.
  • Though dogs and cats can contract Lyme disease, they cannot transmit the disease to humans. However, your pets can bring infected ticks into your home or yard.
  • Lyme disease is not transmitted through air, food or water.
  • Recent studies show that other insects such as mosquitoes, flies, fleas and lice can carry Borrelia. However, this does not prove that their bites can transmit the disease. More study is needed.

Symptoms of Lyme Disease

Early Signs of Lyme Disease

Lyme disease rash - The early signs of Lyme disease

Lyme disease rash – The early signs of Lyme disease

(These typically appear 3 to 30 days after a tick bite)

1. Fever, chills, headache, fatigue, muscle and joint aches, and swollen lymph nodes

2. Typical Lyme disease rash: Erythema chronicum migrans (EM)

  • 50% will notice this lyme disease rash
  • Starts where bitten by lyme disease tick, on average 7-10 after bite
  • Rash slowly grows up to 12 inches or more
  • Often the Lyme disease rash feels warm, but usually is not painful or itchy
  • Sometimes looks like target or “bull’s-eye”
  • See examples of EM rashes

10 Key Reasons Why Lyme Disease is Difficult to Treat

Why Lyme Borrelia is hard to detect and treat?

Why antibiotics are only partially useful in fighting Borrelia?

Why long-term use of Antibiotics will actually hurt you?

1. Pleomorphism

Lyme Borrelia can change the proteins that appear on the surface of its outer membrane (cell wall), which makes it difficult for our immune system to recognize it.

Note: Ozone’s ability to kill bacteria is not dependent on cell surface markers. It effectively kills all prokaryotic cells, which includes all bacteria. Conversely, ozone is healthy for all eukaryotic cells, which includes all human cells.

2. Hides in Deep Tissue
The corkscrew shape of the Borrelia allows it to drill inside our tissues and hide out.

The corkscrew shape of the Borrelia allows it to drill inside our tissues and hide out.

Its corkscrew like shape (spirochete) gives it the ability to “drill” into our tissues and migrate to areas in our body where it can hide from our immune defenses and from antibiotics, including joint cartilage, nerves and even brain.

Note: Ozone molecules are so small, they penetrate into every micron of human tissue. There is nowhere for microbes to hide!

Note: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy causes oxygen to be infused into every cell, organ and tissue of the human body… which is great for our aerobic (oxygen loving) human cells, but terrible for bacteria, which are anaerobic, and are damaged by high oxygen environment.

3. Persister State

Lyme bacteria Borrelia can go into a state called persister cells as a defense against biochemical attack by antibiotics. In a persister state, the metabolism of the microbe slows down into something like hibernation wherein they are not vulnerable to antibiotics. Once the attacking biochemical is removed, the microbes wake up, and the antibiotics become effective once again. That is why some protocols call for a series of antibiotic doses followed by periods of no antibiotics, called “pulse antibiotics”.

Note: Cells in persister states are still vulnerable to ozone!

4. Cyst State

Cysts, much like the persister state mentioned in #5, Borrelia can also go into a cyst state, wherein they are metabolically dormant and not susceptible to antibiotic attack.

Note: Cells in cyst state are still vulnerable to ozone!

5. Intracellular Parasite
Borrelia is an intracellular parasite and can hide inside our cells. Even our brain cells!

Borrelia is an intracellular parasite and can hide inside our cells. Even our brain cells!

It can invade our native cells and hide inside them as an intracellular parasite, protected from our immune defenses and antibiotics.

Note: Though intracellular parasites can hide inside cells from antibiotics, they can NOT hide from Ozone that has been infused in a patient’s blood.

7. BioFilm

It can produce a gelatinous goop called a biofilm, and hide inside where our immune cells and antibiotics can’t penetrate.

6. Slow Growth

Antibiotics work best on bacteria that grow and duplicate fast and congregate in high density colonies. Borrelia however, grow slowly and are found in low densities. Consequently, while Borrelia is ineffectively vulnerable to antibiotics, other naturally occurring and healthy bacteria that happen to be fast-growing colonies in our body are being quickly killed by the antibiotics. Bottom line, antibiotics are far more effective killing our good bacteria, than they are at killing Borrelia.

8. Antibiotics Kill the Good Bacteria

As mentioned in #7, long term use of antibiotics kills the normal healthy bacterial “flora” in our intestines, skin and vaginal tract. This allows the overgrowth of bad bacterial pathogens to such as Candida (yeast), C. Diff. and MRSA skin infections. Furthermore, overuse of Antibiotics gives rise to resistant strains of bacterial pathogens, which can be far are more threatening than the Borrelia that cause Lyme disease.

Note: 70% of our immune defenses operate in our intestines. Consequently, the disruption of our normal healthy intestinal “flora” can further degrade our immune system that is already struggling to deal with the effects of the stealthy Lyme Borrelia.

9. Degrades Our Immune System

All these evasive maneuvers add up to Borrelia’s persistent ability to linger in a patient’s body, which slowly degrades our immune system, and creates an environment ripe for other pathogens to take hold (co-infections) such as other stealthy bacteria, fungi (yeast) and viruses.

Note: Ozone therapy is a very effective boost to our immune systems… especially important when our immune systems are overworked and degraded!

10. Antibiotics Damage Our Mitochondria

Perhaps the most devastating negative side effects of antibiotics is their effect on mitochondria. All cells in the human body have mitochondria which are the essential energy generators required for every function that every cell in your body performs. The unfortunate fact is, that mitochondria are vulnerable to damage caused by many types of antibiotics. Consequently, it is common that as mitochondria become progressively damaged by over use of antibiotics, that many patients experience extreme fatigue and lethargy.

Note: Ozone therapy is a powerful stimulator of mitochondrial health. It immediately increases mitochondrial function.

The Final Analysis

As you can see, early detection and treatment for Lyme disease is critically important… because if left to follow its natural strategies, undiagnosed and untreated, Borrelia will employ its remarkable defenses, resulting in Chronic Lyme Disease (aka Lyme Disease Complex or Post-treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome PTLDS).

As a follow-up to this article, we will discuss the most effective treatments options available for post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome and also delve deeper in to What is Chronic Lyme Disease Complex?
